SBB advises against spontaneous trips to Ticino

The Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) have advised against spontaneous trips to Ticino due to the derailment of a freight wagon and extensive damage to the Gotthard Base Tunnel on Thursday. The capacity on the Gotthard railway has been reduced by around a third due to the temporary closure of the Base Tunnel. According to Rudolf Büchi, Deputy Head of Infrastructure at the SBB, the accident happened at the worst possible time, as the end of the holidays brings a lot of holiday traffic. In addition, the Street Parade in Zurich is expected to attract around one million people this weekend.nnnnnnnn
