After nine years of planning and construction, the new main building of the Bern Inselspital was officially opened on Thursday. Verwaltungsratspräsident Bernhard Pulver spoke of an "important investment in the future of the Inselgruppe". Despite the pandemic, the Ukraine war and the energy crisis, the cost and time frame were kept, Pulver said according to the communiqué in front of more than 200 invited guests. The state-of-the-art hospital will "further strengthen our position as a leading university hospital". The building, with its 18 floors and capacity for 532 beds, costs 670 million Swiss francs and covers an area of 82,000 square meters. The new building replaces the bed tower built in 1970, which will now be dismantled piece by piece. The new building is called the Anna-Seiler-Haus, named after the Bernburgerin who founded a hospital with 13 beds during a plague epidemic in 1354, thus laying the foundation for the Inselspital. On Saturday and Sunday, open days will be held, with the Inselgruppe expecting more than 7000 visitors. The clinical commissioning of the new Anna-Seiler-Haus will follow on 18 September. The new building is the most expensive hospital in Switzerland and its standardized room types ensure that it will always meet the needs of medical care. The "forward-looking and modern construction" sets new standards for the design of modern hospital life, said Director Uwe E. Jocham. "We also create a progressive and pleasant working atmosphere for our employees."nnnnnnnnnn
