The Canton of Vaud is looking to reduce the size of a wolf pack on Mont Tendre in the Vaud Jura with culls. The Swiss Federal Office for the Environment (Bafu) has granted the canton permission to remove two wolf cubs by the end of March 2024. The pack has been attacking young cattle since June. The Bafu has acknowledged that all legal criteria for the removal of two wolf cubs have been met. According to current regulations, a pack can be regulated if at least one calf has been killed within four months and the pack has successfully reproduced within a year. Last spring, a wolf couple settled on Mont Tendre and since then there have been around a dozen attacks on young cattle. In addition, the gamekeeper has found that the couple has had offspring. The Canton of Vaud is taking action to reduce the size of the wolf pack on Mont Tendre in the Vaud Jura by culling two wolf cubs. The Swiss Federal Office for the Environment has granted permission for the removal of the cubs by the end of March 2024.
