Mood Turning Sour for Swiss SMEs Due to Numerous Crises

Swiss SMEs have been optimistic for the past three years, but now the mood is beginning to shift. According to the Raiffeisen KMU-Mittelstandstudie, only 63% of surveyed SMEs now rate their economic situation as good, compared to 73% last year. Looking to the future, 62% of SMEs expect a good to very good economic development over the next three years, down from 76% in 2021. Financial expectations have also been dampened, with only half of companies expecting rising revenues this year, compared to 63% last year. The main challenges facing SMEs are the skills shortage, rising costs of raw materials and energy, and the increasing digitalisation. To increase their resilience to these issues, 49% of SMEs have integrated strategies to strengthen their resilience, while 27% are working on it. However, only 19% feel well prepared for the skills shortage, and 20-23% for price increases and access to raw materials and energy. Overall, the stability of the Swiss location is still important to 86% of SMEs, and the government is expected to play a role in ensuring this stability, particularly in terms of Switzerland's relationship with the EU.nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
