St. Gallen Waives Further Investigation into “Domino Servite”

The St. Gallen Education Department has decided to forgo further investigation into allegations of corporal punishment of former students at a private school in Kaltbrunn SG. Instead, an assistance centre will be created. Since a "DOK" broadcast by Swiss Radio and Television (SRF) concerning the private school "Domino Servite", four more alleged victims have contacted the St. Gallen Education Department, according to Stefan Kölliker (SVP), Head of the St. Gallen Education Department. A total of five former students of the private school have now reached the canton. In a letter sent on Wednesday, the Education Department stated that, in its view, the school supervision at the time had done enough to investigate the suspicions at the private school. It was also stated that it was understandable that the investigation had not been successful and that a new investigation was not necessary. The assistance centre is intended to give former students the opportunity to communicate and to refer them to independent, professional counselling and support services. In addition, the revision of the school law is being examined to see how the supervision of private schools can be further expanded.
