According to the Basler Zeitung, the Green Party was unable to shake off its image as a party of prohibition. However, the actions of the climate activists had a greater impact. The Swiss People's Party (SVP) on the other hand, had regained its political compass. The constant demonstrations and blockades in public spaces proved to be counter-productive and annoyed many voters, who then gave their votes to the Social Democrats (SP) or the Green Liberals. This victory for the SVP was a defeat for all leftists. During the election campaign, the SVP consistently targeted its favourite enemies, foreigners and migrants, which resonated with its audience who were feeling insecure and angry. As long as left-wing politicians in Switzerland and Europe continue to ignore and downplay the issue of immigration, the SVP will continue to have a strong base of support.
