From Sunday to Monday afternoon, strong south-foehn winds with gusts of up to 100 kilometers per hour are expected in the Alpine valleys of Switzerland. On Monday, a cold front will end the foehn phase.
A strong southwesterly wind blew over the Jura on Sunday, according to Meteo Schweiz. This was caused by a strong wind event in the lower layers of the atmosphere, which is created by increasing temperature differences. In this particular case, it was a cold front from the northwest that was approaching and simultaneous Föhn over the Alpine region.
On Sunday evening, a cold front will bring heavy rain and gradually snow down to 1500 meters, according to SRF Meteo. Locally, the snowfall limit could even be lower. On Tuesday morning, SRF Meteo reports a transition to changeable April weather with further downpours on the northern side of the Alps.
