President Alain Berset will meet Canadian Governor General Mary Simon and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in Ottawa on Thursday. On Friday, he will sign a new film agreement with Culture Minister Pascale St-Onge and Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly.

In addition to bilateral relations, the talks with Trudeau in the capital Ottawa will focus on the Francophonie, international timeliness and the UN Security Council, as the Federal Department of Home Affairs (FDHA) announced on Tuesday.

On Friday, Berset will sign the new film agreement with St-Onge and Joly in Montreal. It updates the conditions for cooperation between Switzerland and Canada. Finally, on Wednesday, Berset will represent Switzerland at the opening of the Cinémania film festival in Montreal. Switzerland is the guest country at the festival for francophone film.

According to the new film agreement, co-produced films and series are to benefit from easier financing and better distribution conditions. In addition, the agreement facilitates filming for co-productions in Switzerland.

The investment obligation for platforms and TV stations, which will apply from 2024 in the new Swiss Film Act, should also facilitate coproductions. In the past ten years, Switzerland and Canada completed six co-productions with a budget of CHF 19.3 million.
