Number of UN staff killed in Gaza Strip rises to 92

The number of United Nations employees killed in the Gaza Strip has risen to 92. This figure was given in an interview by Philippe Lazzarini, Commissioner-General of the UN Palestinian Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA). He warned of a collapse in public order.
In an interview with Tamedia published on Thursday, Swiss diplomat Lazzarini said that the United Nations had never recorded so many deaths in a single month in any conflict anywhere in the world.
More than 700,000 people have now fled to the aid organization's facilities to be safe under the blue UN flag. "Unfortunately, more than 50 of our facilities have already been hit," he said. Dozens of people have been killed and hundreds injured.
Possible displacement to the southwest
Many people have moved from the north to the south. "But the south did not prove to be any safer," said Lazzarini. A third of the aid organization's employees died in the south. "We are now also hearing that people could later be pushed even further to move from the urban centers in the south to the southwest," he said. Without an urban environment, the supply will become even more difficult.
Lazzarini reiterated the call for more aid to reach the Gaza Strip. "What is needed is a constant supply of humanitarian aid," he said. If something fundamental does not change quickly, public order threatens to collapse. If UNRWA does not receive any fuel in the next few days, for example, key facilities will no longer function, according to Lazzarini.
