Center Party President Gerhard Pfister has clear expectations of the FDP Federal Councillors. If both were to stand for re-election, they would have to distance themselves from the "block politics" of the right-wing camp in future.

Pfister made this clear to his party's delegates in Thun BE on Saturday. Out of respect for the institutions, the center does not want to vote anyone out of office. However, the "right-wing pole" in the Federal Council would be even less legitimized after the 2023 elections than before.

This makes it all the more important that Ignazio Cassis and Karin Keller-Sutter "take responsibility for the overall well-being of the population in their office and do not exercise the simple power logic of a right-wing majority bloc together with the SVP representatives".

Pfister believes the elections have strengthened his own party. With 14.1 percent of voters, the centrist party has exceeded its election target. The center will continue to gain influence in federal Bern.
