The heavy snowfall on Friday and during the night into Saturday caused some traffic problems. Rail traffic had to be interrupted in Graubünden.

The heavy snowfall has thrown the Räthische Bahn (RhB) out of step: several of the railroad lines in the canton of Graubünden were interrupted on Saturday morning or could only be used to a limited extent. According to RhB, replacement transportation was only possible to a very limited extent.

The Arosa line from Chur to Arosa was interrupted, as the RhB announced on Saturday morning. The line was without power. On the Albula line, the section between Bergün and Samedan was interrupted. The reason given by RhB was that a tree had fallen on the overhead line. Trains ran from Chur to Filisur (and vice versa). A tree also fell on the overhead line in the Lower Engadine between S-chanf and Zernez. Replacement transportation is currently not possible because the road is also closed.

There were further restrictions and interruptions in the Upper Engadine. According to RhB, the only trains running there were between St. Moritz and Samedan. The line from Davos to Filisur was also interrupted. It was not initially known how long the disruptions lasted.

Nine accidents on Chur's roads

As expected, the snowfall also resulted in car accidents. There were several accidents on the streets of Chur on Friday evening: two pedestrians were hit by vehicles in different places. In addition, one car slammed into a house wall and another into a fallen tree - resulting in a total of nine accidents.

The pedestrians were all injured while crossing a pedestrian crossing, as reported by the Chur municipal police on Saturday night. They were taken to the cantonal hospital in Graubünden. One car driver was also slightly injured. The other accidents resulted in property damage.

Traffic abroad disrupted

Rail traffic abroad was also partially disrupted on Saturday morning. Rail traffic between Switzerland and Germany came to a standstill: The route to Munich was interrupted, while traffic to Stuttgart was restricted, according to SBB. On the line from Zurich via St. Margrethen SG to Munich, there were no trains running from St. Margrethen on Saturday morning, according to SBB.

Rail traffic from Zurich via Schaffhausen to Stuttgart was therefore restricted from Schaffhausen onwards. Deutsche Bahn assumed that the disruption would last until at least 12 noon. According to SBB, the Constance-Kreuzlingen TG line was also disrupted on Saturday morning. No trains were running.

Flights from Zurich to Munich, for example, were also canceled because flight operations at Munich Airport were suspended until probably 12:00 noon due to the heavy snowfall.
