A Bulgarian couple and their son have to answer to the Geneva Criminal Court for commercial human trafficking. They are alleged to have recruited people to beg and thus financed their livelihood. According to the Geneva public prosecutor's office, the family's income from this amounted to several hundred thousand francs.

The 51-year-old father and his 33-year-old son are said to have recruited the people mainly in Bulgaria, the public prosecutor's office announced on Monday. According to the public prosecutor's office, they were then brought to Switzerland to beg, mainly to Geneva and Lausanne. The beggars handed over all or almost all of their earnings to the two. The mother supervised the activity and supported her husband.

The defendants, for whom the presumption of innocence applies, are accused of commercial human trafficking, the complicity of the wife and money laundering. The criminal court has jurisdiction if the public prosecutor wishes to apply for a sentence of more than two to a maximum of ten years.
