Ukraine received the equivalent of more than 1.2 billion euros from the World Bank on Christmas Day. The money is to be used primarily for pension payments and the salaries of civil protection employees, the Ministry of Finance in Kiev announced on Monday. According to the announcement, just under one billion euros of the tranche is a loan guaranteed by the Japanese government. The remainder consists of financial aid from Norway, the USA and Switzerland.

Ukraine has been defending itself against the Russian invasion with massive Western support for more than 22 months. According to the Ministry of Finance, Kiev has received the equivalent of over 63 billion euros to finance the Ukrainian state budget alone since the Russian invasion. In addition, the USA and many other countries have provided billions of euros in financial aid.
