Snowboarder dies in Laax GR ski resort after accident with snow lance

A snowboarder crashed into the protective mat on a snow lance in the Flims Laax Falera ski area in Graubünden on Tuesday. He suffered fatal injuries and died hours later in the cantonal hospital in Chur.
The snowboarder was on a blue ski slope to the Curnius station after 10.45 a.m. on Tuesday, as the Graubünden cantonal police reported on Wednesday. After a small crest, he crashed into the padded snow lance at the edge of the slope.
Third parties alerted the piste rescue service and provided first aid. A Rega helicopter flew the injured man to the cantonal hospital. The man died there in the afternoon. Formal identification of the casualty is still underway, according to the cantonal police media office.
