Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi has warned of a possible "freeze" in the Russian war against his country.
"Every frozen conflict will flare up again at some point," said the head of state at the World Economic Forum in Davos on Tuesday. Selensky has long been in favor of deciding the war on the battlefield in order to inflict a strategic defeat on Russia.
Selensky recalled attempts by then German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President François Hollande to stop the conflict that broke out in eastern Ukraine in 2014. The agreements reached at the time on a ceasefire and a peace plan between Kiev and the Moscow-backed separatists were never fully implemented.
Selensky once again accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of having no interest in a peaceful solution. "Putin is a predator who is not satisfied with frozen products," emphasized the Ukrainian. He always comes back for more.
As a way out, Selensky pointed to his ten-point plan, which is based on a complete Russian withdrawal from Ukraine, reparations and the punishment of war criminals. Only this peace plan would enable a "just and stable peace", he emphasized.
Ukraine has been defending itself against the Russian invasion for almost two years with Western help. Almost a fifth of Ukraine's territory is under Russian control.
