The Swiss Armed Forces will not be holding two planned major events and other events. The reason given for the decision was the "strained financial situation".

At the end of August, the air force had planned to hold Air Spirit 24 at the Emmen military airfield, while Defense 25, a major event for the ground forces, was planned for 2025 in Bière VD. These and other events will not take place for financial reasons, the army announced on Friday.

Army spokesman Stefan Hofer told the Keystone-SDA news agency when asked how much would be saved by doing without. This would not solve the army's financial problems, but it would be a visible step.

The army's major events attract tens of thousands of people each year. The army wants to use these events to give the public the opportunity to get an idea of the air force's capabilities. The events are also important for building trust and reputation, according to the press release.
