Toxic smoke from large industrial hall fire near Sirnach TG

A fire broke out in an industrial building between Sirnach TG and Wil SG on Thursday morning. The fire department was on site with a large contingent. Rescue workers provided medical care to eight people at the scene. One man was taken to hospital on suspicion of smoke inhalation.
Among other things, solvents, paints and tires were stored in the hall, as Matthias Graf, media spokesman for the Thurgau cantonal police, told the Keystone-SDA news agency on request.
The industrial hall is located in the immediate vicinity of the A1 highway. Due to the heavy smoke development, speed was reduced on the highway section between Münchwilen and Wil and the population was asked to close windows and doors.
The damage to property runs into the millions, the police announced in the evening. 150 firefighters from the surrounding fire departments were deployed. The industrial hall and neighboring buildings had to be evacuated.
