Swisslos expects 400,000 players to win the 42 million jackpot

Hundreds of thousands are hoping for a "six in the lottery" on Saturday. Swisslos is expecting around 400,000 players to try and win the lottery jackpot of 42 million francs. If one lucky player picks the right numbers, they could win the fourth-highest prize in history.
Swisslos has recorded "a significant increase in sales" at sales outlets and among online players in recent days, the non-profit lottery company told the Keystone-SDA news agency on Friday.
Swisslos only knows the number of picks submitted. However, players often submit several lottery tickets. Based on experience, Swisslos therefore expects around 400,000 participants. On normal playing days, the figure is between 250,000 and 300,000, meaning that Saturday's huge jackpot would probably attract over a quarter more players.
45 draws without main prize
The Lotto jackpot has now been untouched for 45 draws. It was last cracked on August 26, 2023 and has now reached CHF 42 million. This amount and the fact that the jackpot was never anywhere near this high last year have significantly increased interest in Swiss Lotto, it was reported.
The highest lottery prize paid out to date is 48,598,077 francs. It was achieved in 2014 with the numbers 3,4,7,21,22,23 and lucky number 2. However, the highest jackpot ever achieved in Swiss Lotto is still a long way off: in December 2016, 70 million francs had been accumulated.
Bigger chance with Swiss Lotto
Unlike the Euro Millions game, there is no limit to the jackpot in Swiss Lotto. However, the Swiss lottery is also not designed for such high prizes as the European lottery. In Swiss Lotto, the chance of winning is higher. It is 1 in 31 million, with Euro Millions the chance is 1 in 136 million.
According to Swisslos, it has already made 1072 millionaires in its history, 867 of them in the lottery. There have already been two lottery millionaires this year.
