The members of the SP Women elected Mathilde Mottet as their new Co-President on Saturday in Zurich. She takes over the office from Martine Docourt, who stepped down after six years. Bernese National Councillor Tamara Funiciello remains Co-President.
Around 170 women took part in the general meeting, as the SP Women announced. The new Co-President Mottet is a municipal parliamentarian in Monthey VS and has been a member of the SP Women's Executive Committee since 2022. Until June 2023, the 28-year-old was Deputy Central Secretary of Juso.
Mottet was elected with 80 votes, while her opponent Laurie Willommet received 40 votes. Docourt remains on the Executive Board. She was elected to the National Council in the canton of Neuchâtel in 2023.
In a position paper, the SP Women also recognized sex work as work, but not as work like any other. They therefore call for an improvement in working conditions and free access to health and counseling services.
In a resolution on Israel and Gaza, the General Assembly expressed its solidarity with the victims of gender-based violence. Sexualized violence against women is systematically perpetrated in conflicts.
Switzerland must actively support the investigation of war crimes in order to put an end to this violence. It should also speak out in favor of peace negotiations and an immediate ceasefire.
