Following Tuesday's cable fire in a switching station in Birr AG, the national grid company Swissgrid has taken the 220-kilovolt line to the Birr reserve power plant out of operation. The fire was quickly extinguished by the fire department, according to reports.
The grid connection of the Birr reserve power plant was interrupted due to the fire of a so-called cable termination, as Swissgrid announced on Wednesday. Repair work was started immediately in order to reconnect the affected 220 kV line from the Birr substation to the Birr reserve power plant to the grid as quickly as possible.
The fire had no impact on the extra-high-voltage grid, as Swissgrid writes. Security of supply is guaranteed.
Because the site of the substation is located next to a groundwater protection zone, measures have been taken with the cantonal environmental authorities and the well master of the municipality of Birr to ensure soil and water quality.
