Forest fire breaks out near Lugano

A forest fire broke out on Wednesday evening in the area of the former political municipality of Sonvico in the north of Lugano. According to the Ticino cantonal police, there is no danger to people. Extinguishing work is underway.
The fire is currently raging over an area of around 40 by 60 meters, as first reported by the Ticino daily newspaper "La Regione". The Ticino cantonal police confirmed the information at the request of the Keystone-SDA news agency.
However, it was not possible to clarify how many firefighters were deployed early on Wednesday evening. According to "La Regione", two helicopters were also deployed until dark.
There is currently a moderate risk of forest fires in Ticino (danger level 2). According to the weather forecast, it is also expected to start raining early Thursday morning.
