The number of take-offs and landings at Zurich Airport increased year-on-year in February. In addition, the gap to the pre-crisis figures narrowed slightly.

In February 2024, there were a total of 16,832 take-offs and landings at Zurich Airport. This is around 9% more than in February 2023, but a good 7% less than in January, according to an analysis of data by the news agency AWP.

When interpreting the data, however, it must be borne in mind that the number of flight movements is subject to strong seasonal fluctuations. For example, vacations and public holidays as well as major events play an important role. As is well known, the WEF took place in January, which traditionally generates a lot of traffic at Switzerland's largest airport.

At just under 12%, the gap to the pre-corona crisis level remains considerable. However, the gap has narrowed by around 3 percentage points compared to the same period last year. In January, the difference to pre-crisis levels was also higher at 14.5%.

The flight movement figures at Zurich Airport are based on daily updated statistics, in which all flights are recorded according to instrument flight rules. This so-called IFR traffic includes scheduled flights as well as cargo, business and private flights. However, the number of flight movements says nothing about the size of the aircraft handled and their capacity utilization.

Zurich Airport will publish detailed passenger and traffic figures for the month of February on March 12.
