A 57-year-old Swiss man has died as a result of an avalanche. He was caught in an avalanche on the Erezberg in Davos at the beginning of the month and was rescued seriously injured.
The accident happened on March 2. The ski tourer was completely buried. The rescue team located him and dug him out. Seriously injured, he was transported by helicopter to the cantonal hospital in Chur, where he has since succumbed to his injuries, as the Graubünden cantonal police announced on Thursday.
Shortly after the 57-year-old's accident, another 49-year-old ski tourer was buried by an avalanche not far from the accident site on the Erezberg. All help came too late for him.
The avalanche death of the 57-year-old Swiss is already the eleventh in the current winter season. Six people have died in Graubünden alone, according to the website of the Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research (SLF).
