The Federal Council wants to further develop the Swiss Hotel Credit Association. In future, it should be able to focus more on sustainable development. At the same time, it rejects an impulse program for accommodation in the Alps and the promotion of urban hotels.
The Federal Council has opened the consultation on the total revision of the Federal Act on the Promotion of the Lodging Industry. This was announced following its meeting on Friday. Among other things, the bill provides for the further development of the Swiss Society for Hotel Credit (SGH).
In future, it will be able to grant loans on particularly favorable terms and thus provide financial incentives for investments that are valuable in terms of structural change and sustainable development.
No need in the cities
On the other hand, the Federal Council rejects the implementation of two motions. The first concerns an impulse program for the renovation of accommodation in the Alps. It would be limited to ten years and would cost a total of CHF 195 million. The government submitted a draft for this program, which it itself rejected. The reason given was that there was no longer any urgency for additional funding after the Covid pandemic. In addition, the federal government has no scope for additional expenditure "due to the difficult financial policy environment".
On the other hand, the Federal Council is against the implementation of the motion "Equal opportunities for individual urban businesses in the hotel industry". It cites studies that have shown that hotels in cities have little need for investment promotion.
