The Customs Museum in Gandria TI is opening its doors after the winter break with an exhibition on the subject of "Migration". The photographer's exhibition, which opens on Easter Sunday, shows the long journeys of migrants.

The traveling exhibition stopping at the Cantine di Gandria on Lake Lugano is entitled "Migration - a photo exhibition by Darrin Zammit Lupi". The exhibition is part of the celebrations to mark the 30th anniversary of the Swiss representation of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), writes the Federal Office for Customs and Border Security (FOCBS) in a press release.

Reuters photojournalist Darrin Zammit Lupi has worked for the "Times of Malta" and "Malta Independent" newspapers, among others. As a freelance journalist, he has also traveled around the world for Reuters and has covered the wars in Bosnia and Kosovo, the tsunami in Southeast Asia, the conflict in Libya and topics related to the Millennium Development Goals in various parts of Africa over the past 30 years, as the BAZG writes.

Exhibition on endangered species

In addition to the photo exhibition, the Swiss Customs Museum is also showing a newly designed exhibition on species protected by the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (Cites).

The agreement, which was signed by 184 countries in Washington on March 3, 1973, commits to protecting more than 5,000 animal and 28,000 plant species. According to this agreement, endangered animal and plant species can only be traded in a sustainable manner.

The FOCA monitors the import, export and transit of protected animals and plants or parts or products thereof in accordance with the Cites provisions, as the Federal Office states in its press release. Monitoring is guaranteed for both commercial consignments and tourist traffic.
