Car transportation on the Furka between Realp UR and Oberwald VS will remain suspended until at least Tuesday morning. The reason for this is that the access road on the Uri side is still closed due to the risk of avalanches.
The Federal Office for Civil Protection announced on its Alertswiss website on Monday afternoon that the road between Hospental UR and Realp was at risk of avalanches and closed. A new assessment will be carried out on Tuesday morning.
Shortly afterwards, the operator of the car transport service on the Furka also announced that it would remain closed until further notice. A new assessment will be made on Tuesday morning. The operator is the Matterhorn-Gotthard Railway.
However, according to their website, trains are running again between Andermatt and Tschamut-Selva GR on the Oberalp Pass. This connection was interrupted on Sunday. Most of the trains in the Jungfrau region of the Bernese Oberland were also running again after the strong Föhn winds of the Easter weekend came to an end.
The road to the Calanca Valley in south-western Graubünden has also been reopened, as the Viasuisse traffic information service announced on request. Due to the heavy rainfall, the authorities had closed this road on Sunday for safety reasons.
However, the road from Stalden VS to Saas-Grund VS at the foot of the tourist resort of Saas-Fee was still closed on Monday afternoon. It will be opened on Monday evening, Saas-Fee Tourism announced on the Internet. And according to the SBB rail traffic information service Railinfo, there were still no trains running on the Bernina line of the Rhaetian Railway between Pontresina and Poschiavo.
According to the federal natural hazards portal, there was still a high avalanche risk in Upper Valais, northern Ticino and southern parts of Graubünden on Monday afternoon.
