The A8 Brünig Pass road will be closed in both directions on the Bern side between the Brienzwiler-West junction and the Meiringen junction from April 15 to May 3. The reason for this is rock stabilization work. Traffic will be diverted via Meiringen.
During the closure, traffic will be diverted from the Unterbach junction via the cantonal road to Meiringen, the Federal Roads Office (Astra) announced on Monday. The route can be used by trucks up to 40 tons.
According to Astra, the pass road over the Brünig, which is part of the national road network, is mainly threatened by falling rocks. Protective nets have been installed at various points and individual sections of rock are also being monitored.
In order to ensure long-term safety, various works will be carried out near Brienzwiler over the next few weeks, the press release added. This includes maintenance work on safety nets and shoring, rock cleaning and work in the forest. Individual boulders will also be removed or blasted.
