On Wednesday in Luxembourg, the General Court of the European Union (EU) overturned EU sanction decisions against Russian nationals Mikhail Fridman and Pyotr Aven. The ruling is not yet legally binding. The two men are also on Switzerland's sanctions list.
A spokeswoman for the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research (EAER) told the Keystone-SDA news agency in response to an inquiry. However, the EAER is following developments in the EU and is constantly reviewing the legal implications.
In principle, if a person is removed from the sanctions list in the EU, the person must also be removed from the Swiss sanctions list. This is because the legal basis no longer applies, the spokesperson explained.
Persons sanctioned in Switzerland could also submit a request to the EAER to be removed from the lists. It was not initially known whether such applications had already been submitted in connection with the sanctions against Russia.
