The Cully Jazz Festival near Lausanne attracted around 70,000 visitors this year. The 41st edition was therefore even more successful than the previous one with 62,000 admissions.
Twelve paid concerts were sold out, which corresponds to more than 12,500 tickets sold. The 15 stages of the "Off" were also "well attended", especially on the two sunny weekends, as the organizers announced on Saturday evening. Sales in the bars and at the food stands also went well. The figures were only estimates.
From a musical point of view, the organizers listed several "unforgettable moments", such as the performances by saxophonist Lakecia Benjamin with singer Dee Dee Bridgewater, the British group The Herbaliser Band, trumpeter Avishai Cohen, multi-instrumentalist Rodrigo Cuevas and the Portico Quartet.
Several Swiss artists also stood out, such as the Lausanne singer Nnavy, whose "eagerly awaited" concert took place "in a more than sold-out hall". The projects with instrumentalists from the African continent and its diaspora led "bodies and hearts to the roots of their rich musical heritage", according to the statement.
Musical walks
Over 85 concerts took place in the wine cellars and on the outdoor stages as part of the off-festival, offering "a broad spectrum of musical projects that reflect the new generation of contemporary music and jazz", as the organizers emphasized.
The sunny days also contributed to the success of the guided musical walks organized as part of the Autour du Jazz programme. This year, the new route led from Puidoux to Cully, discovering the original compositions of eight Swiss artists.
The 42nd edition of Cully Jazz will return next year from April 4 to 12.
