Three young musical talents receive the Fritz Gerber Award 2024

Flutist Phoebe Bognár, pianist Francisco Morais Fernandes and percussionist Santiago Villar Martín will receive the Fritz Gerber Award 2024. The talents will not only receive prize money of CHF 10,000, but will also be able to take part in the Lucerne Festival Academy.
Flutist Phoebe Bognár was born in Australia in 1997 and studied at the Basel University of Music, among others. According to a Lucerne Festival statement on Wednesday, her musical practice is characterized by a variety of genres, art forms and gestures. She has performed with Ensemble Modern, Ensemble Recherche and Klangforum Wien.
Pianist Francisco Morais Fernandes, born in Portugal in 1999, is also at home in contemporary music. He is currently studying for a Master's degree at the Bern University of the Arts. Morais Fernandes plays solo, but also in ensembles and with orchestras, and he also conducts.
Percussionist Santiago Villar Martín was born in Spain in 1998. He studied in Warsaw and at the Basel Music Academy, where he specialized in sound design. He has performed with the Basel Sinfonietta and is co-founder of the ICE 3 Ensemble and the Ex-Sentia Ensemble.
The Fritz Gerber Award is open to musicians up to the age of 28 who have Swiss citizenship or have lived in Switzerland for at least three years. At the Lucerne Festival Academy, musicians study modern and contemporary music scores during the summer and play in the Lucerne Festival Contemporary Orchestra.
