وصلت أسعار الغاز الطبيعي الأوروبية إلى أعلى مستوياتها في ثلاثة أشهر في أعقاب تصاعد الصراعات في الشرق الأوسط.
The price of European natural gas has reached its highest level in over three months due to the conflicts in the Middle East. The benchmark TTF futures contract for delivery in a month’s time rose to 33.95 euros per megawatt hour on the Amsterdam Stock Exchange on Wednesday. This is the highest price since the beginning of January.
The price of gas has been rising significantly for a week now. During this time, the price of natural gas has risen by more than 20%, making up for the fall in prices in the first few months of the year.
One reason for the rise is investors’ fear of a new war in the Middle East and the potential impact on gas supplies from the region. Following Iran’s attack on Israel at the weekend, the commodity markets are waiting for Israel’s reaction.
Previously, an unusually mild winter in Europe had caused the price of gas to fall. In February, the price fell to EUR 22.31, its lowest level since last summer. In addition, inventories are unusually high for the time of year.
The total fill level of gas storage facilities in Germany, where Switzerland also stores a large proportion of its natural gas, has fallen since the beginning of the year. On April 15, this stood at 69.28%, compared to a fill level of over 91% at the beginning of the year, according to data from the Gas Storage Association GIE.
The fill level of all European gas storage facilities was 62%. According to the association, however, the average fill level for the past five years at this time is only 43%.
