A committee led by St. Gallen naturopath Daniel Trappitsch has failed with two federal popular initiatives. One called for a compulsory savings system for home ownership, the other for independent naturopathy.
The Federal Chancellery announced on Tuesday that the popular initiatives "Yes to independent naturopathy" and "Yes to independent private pension provision" had not collected the necessary signatures. The deadline for collecting signatures has therefore expired unused.
The popular initiative "Yes to independent naturopathy" wanted, among other things, to enshrine in the Federal Constitution that naturopathy would in future not be subject to control by the Swiss Agency for Therapeutic Products (Swissmedic) or any control body of the pharmaceutical industry. Doctors should also be expressly permitted to use naturopathy without restriction.
The popular initiative "Yes to independent personal pension provision" wanted to introduce a stable compulsory savings system for home ownership in parallel with compulsory health insurance. Monthly deposits were to create the equity capital for the entitlement to property mortgages from the federal treasury or banks for people making provisions.
One of the initiators was vaccination critic Daniel Trappitsch, who in the past fought against the Animal Diseases Act and the Epidemics Act. On June 9, the people and cantons will vote on the "Stop compulsory vaccination" initiative, which Trappitsch also helped to launch. Trappitsch is also a member of the Upright Switzerland movement.
