“Faika” wins Swiss wrestling cow fight in Valais

The Hérens cow "Faika" belonging to breeder Melissa Uttinger from Bruson VS won the final of the cow wrestling competition in Aproz VS on Sunday. Over 15,000 spectators watched the fights in sunny and warm weather.
The competitions took place on Saturday and Sunday. In the grand final on Sunday, the queens measured their strength in four categories. The first-time queen "Khamosis" defeated "Tirana" in a memorable battle, according to the organizers.
In the heavyweight fight, the bulkier cow "Faika" prevailed against "Fuego". The final clash with "Khamosis" was won by "Faika" thanks to her greater experience. She thus took the title of Queen of the Queen of the Hérens Cows 2024.
On the weekend of tradition and conviviality, more than 260 cows competed against each other in the Pra Bardy arena in Aproz. They fight horn to horn with panting breaths and steaming flanks.
Some animals cross their horns for minutes before the stronger cow wins. Over 600 volunteers ensure that everything runs smoothly. Five breeding cooperatives are behind the event.
