Swiss Post has a positive start to the year despite an uncertain environment

Swiss Post can look back on a successful first quarter. Group profit almost doubled to 84 million francs. At 87 million francs, the operating result (EBIT) was 17 million francs higher than in the same quarter of the previous year.
This means that Swiss Post recorded a better quarterly result in the first three months after two years of decline. However, the familiar problems persisted at the start of the year, as Swiss Post announced on Wednesday. Letter volumes fell by 5.6 percent, parcels sent were down by 6.2 percent and payments at the post office counter fell by 13 percent.
Sales rose by 151 million to 1.92 billion francs. While all other branches of Swiss Post generated a positive operating result before interest and taxes (EBIT), the post offices reported a loss of 30 million francs.
Despite the positive quarterly result, Swiss Post is unable to issue a forecast for the year as a whole. This was prevented by the uncertain environment on the financial markets and in the logistics sector.
