Marco Goecke becomes the new artistic director of the ballet in Basel

Marco Goecke will be the new artistic director and in-house choreographer of the ballet at Theater Basel from summer 2025. Goecke was ballet director at the Hanover State Opera. He was suspended there when he attacked a journalist with dog excrement in February 2023.
Goecke will remain in Basel until 2029, as the theater announced to the media on Wednesday. As planned, Adolphe Binder's two-year term of office will end in summer 2025. She took over from Richard Wherlock, who led the ballet division for 22 years, in summer 2023.
Nadja Kadel and Ludovio Pace will take over the management of the ballet. Both have been working with Goecke for a long time, as the artistic director of Theater Basel, Benedikt von Peter, said.
