430 residents affected by the peace conference security concept

Around 430 local residents are affected by the security concept for the peace conference on the Bürgenstock NW. They must pick up an ID card in person at an accreditation desk, as Stephan Grieder, commander of the Nidwalden cantonal police, said during a tour of the security zone on Monday.
Children aged 12 and over are also affected. However, the mood among the population is positive and there is a lot of understanding for the measures.
According to Grieder, the security measures will take effect from midday on Thursday and will last until the end of the conference on Monday. The closer to the Bürgenstock resort, the more tightly meshed the security concept becomes. There will be several checkpoints after the accreditation office. The first one is already in Stansstad NW.
"A major challenge"
It was a major challenge to protect such a large number of people in such a short space of time, Grieder continued. It is not comparable with other events.
As the host canton, Nidwalden is responsible for security before and during the conference. There will be a red security zone around the conference venue. However, this will only affect a few people in the immediate vicinity, the authorities assured the public at an information event at the beginning of May. The village centers of Stansstad NW and Ennetbürgen NW will not be part of the exclusion zone.
A few days before the start of the conference, Grieder, together with Nidwalden cantonal councillor Karin Kayser-Frutschi (center) and a representative of the army, conducted a tour of the security zone, showing the numerous media representatives who had arrived the heliport for air transport of conference participants, the checkpoint for entry to the security zone and the accreditation point for residents.
