Further witnesses testified on Monday in the trial before the District Court of Baden AG concerning the killing of a 41-year-old wife in Bergdietikon. The statements gave an insight into the marital and family relationships. The 49-year-old husband is charged with murder.

After questioning a former assistant of the victim, the second witness was the ex-partner of the victim's sister. When he had last met the victim in spring 2022, she had seemed "very tired and stressed" to him. The ex-brother-in-law mentioned that the accused, a 49-year-old Swiss man, had made suggestions to him in August 2022 that something might happen.

"A story told"

The witness was at the crime scene with other family members in the morning. "I couldn't believe that she had killed herself. She was such a peaceful person," he said. He also saw signs of violence on the victim. Everyone was in shock and the accused "told a story" about what had happened.

The cousin said that at the meeting a week before the crime, the victim had made a happy impression. In contrast, the accused had told her that his wife was depressed. Another cousin, who spent the evening before the crime with the victim and her sister, said the mood was "very nice". "She didn't look like she was depressed at all."

The victim's father said that he had broken off contact with the perpetrator's family on the day of the crime. He had treated his son-in-law "like my own child". He wanted the court to pass judgment on the crime. "Kanun, blood revenge, that's over," he said, that was clear to his whole family.

Difficult family life

The victim's sister said: "Our relationship was very good before." Now family life is difficult because everyone is very affected by the crime. When asked whether there could be revenge against the perpetrator's family, she said that this would not bring her sister back and would only cause more suffering.

"My children are afraid that their uncle will come over and do something to them," said the sister. She herself was also experiencing anxiety that she had never known before.

The victim's brother said that he had already had trouble with his brother-in-law's character before the crime. He said of the sister who was killed: "She was a star for us. An optimistic person."
