The fire departments in the canton of Vaud were called out over 140 times following the thunderstorms on Saturday evening. Compared to Valais and Ticino, however, the damage was minor. It mainly consisted of flooding and fallen trees.
Among other things, a tree fell on a caravan at the Cheseaux-Noréaz campsite in northern Vaud, as the cantonal command staff (KFS) announced on Monday. No one was injured.
Unlike in Valais, the Rhone did not overflow its banks in the canton of Vaud at the weekend. However, the emergency services evacuated the industrial area of Aigle VD as a preventative measure. Some traffic routes were also closed as a precaution.
According to the cantonal command staff, the existing monitoring system will be maintained over the next few days, even if the flood waters gradually recede.
