51-year-old man stands trial in Zurich for killing his wife

Today, Wednesday, a 51-year-old man will stand trial in Zurich District Court for the murder of his wife. According to the indictment, he murdered his 40-year-old wife with dozens of stab wounds in Zurich on November 23, 2022.
The murder took place in the apartment they shared in Zurich-Altstetten, where the Swiss couple and their two underage children had moved in just a few months earlier. Shortly after moving in, the man with Turkish roots began to feel suspicious.
He suspected that his wife was having an affair with a neighbor. However, according to the indictment, there was no evidence of this. There were repeated arguments. According to the indictment, the husband forbade his wife to leave the apartment and kept an eye on her. From September onwards, the wife brought up the subject of separation and divorce.
When it came to another argument on the same subject late that November afternoon, she told her husband that she had had enough of him.
"Absolute will to destroy"
According to the indictment, he then grabbed an armor knife and attacked the woman. He killed his victim "with an absolute will to destroy in a particularly cruel manner".
According to the public prosecutor, the dying woman still managed to call her sister. She and neighbors, who heard the cries for help from the children who had returned home immediately after the crime, called the police. However, all rescue attempts were unsuccessful. The woman died on the spot.
The man, who was also injured, was taken to hospital and subsequently remanded in custody. Today he is in preventive detention. The public prosecutor is seeking a conviction for murder. His sentence will not be known until the trial. The motions of the defense will then also be announced. It remains to be seen when the verdict will be announced.
