Thunderstorm capsizes numerous boats in Zug and Lucerne

The storm on Monday evening caused trees to fall and boats to capsize in the cantons of Zug and Lucerne. The police received a total of 20 reports in Zug and 50 in Lucerne.
A boat sank in the area of the disaster bay in the city of Zug, as the Zug police announced on Tuesday. The passengers were brought to safety and remained unharmed. The boat was rescued by the lake rescue service.
In addition, several people were out in rubber boats during the storm in the Obersee near Immensee, it was reported. The people managed to row to shore on their own and reach safety.
In the municipalities of Baar and Risch Rotkreuz, individual trees fell onto roads and had to be removed by the fire department. On the A14 highway near Gisikon, branches that threatened to fall onto the road had to be removed.
In the municipality of Unterägeri, two underground garages and a cellar were flooded. In Steinhausen, lightning struck a house. In addition, construction barriers were knocked over by the wind in several municipalities in the canton of Zug, partially blocking the roads.
Branches fell on overhead lines
In the canton of Lucerne, the water police were called out on numerous occasions, as the Lucerne police announced on Tuesday. Several boats broke free from their ropes in the shore area and some sank. No people were injured.
As in the canton of Zug, the fire departments were called out due to fallen trees and broken branches. In the city of Lucerne, some of the latter fell onto overhead lines belonging to Verkehrsbetriebe Luzern AG (VBL) and onto parked vehicles.
