Mayor of Bioggio TI suspended due to criminal proceedings

The Ticino government has suspended the mayor of Bioggio TI near Lugano. The reason for the suspension is the opening of criminal proceedings on suspicion of embezzlement and qualified mismanagement.
The mayor of Bioggio himself requested his suspension due to the pending criminal proceedings, the Ticino government announced on Wednesday. The management of the municipal council will be transferred to the deputy mayor.
The suspension is preventative in nature, the Ticino government continues. It is intended to protect the interests of the municipality and the dignity of the office from the possible negative effects of criminal proceedings.
