The European Film Academy wants to honor director Wim Wenders (79) for his life's work. His "outstanding work" will be honored, as the Academy announced in Berlin.
Wenders is always experimenting and exploring new things with a curious eye and an open mind. He is to receive the award at the European Film Awards ceremony on December 7 in Lucerne.
Multi-award-winning director
Wenders, who was born in Düsseldorf in 1945 and lives in Berlin, is one of the most important German directors. He has received numerous awards throughout his career. He has enjoyed international success with feature films such as "Paris, Texas" and "The Sky Over Berlin". Wenders is one of the founding members of the European Film Academy and was its president from 1996 to 2020.
He has already been nominated three times for a documentary film Oscar: in 2000 with the musician documentary "Buena Vista Social Club", in 2012 with the 3D dance film "Pina" about Pina Bausch and in 2015 with the documentary "The Salt of the Earth" about the Brazilian photographer Sebastião Salgado. At this year's Oscars, Wenders came away empty-handed with his poetic film "Perfect Days" in the "International Film" category.
Nominations for the European Film Awards in November
The European Film Awards are presented annually, alternating between Berlin and another European city. The films and actors nominated this year will be announced in November. Last year, the legal thriller "Anatomy of a Case" by Justine Triet was named best European film.
