The Swiss defense attaché in Paris, Guy Vallat, who failed the security check, is leaving the army. The employment relationship with him will be terminated "by mutual agreement", as the Federal Council announced on Wednesday.
According to the information provided, the ordinary notice period for the divisional officer will expire at the end of February 2025. The 56-year-old Jura native already resigned from his position in mid-July. A military attaché is an officer seconded to a foreign mission with diplomatic status and is generally responsible for military matters.
Vallat had failed a regular check every three to five years, as became known in July. The Federal Chancellery no longer granted him a security clearance. The reasons were not disclosed. At the time, Vallat was the second divisional officer within a month to fail the federal government's personal security check.
Vallat joined the Infantry Instruction Corps in 1991 and has held various positions in the Department of Defense. Among other things, he was Commander of the Logistics Training Unit and most recently Defense Attaché in Paris.
His successor will be Divisional Officer Peter Wanner, who was most recently Military Representative to NATO and the EU in Brussels.
