The business umbrella organization Economiesuisse sees a great need for action to achieve a future-oriented economy. Smart infrastructures are needed in order to have first-class location conditions and meet the net-zero emissions target.
"Smart infrastructures 2050" was the title of Economiesuisse's Business Day, as the association announced on Friday. The focus in Bern was on mobility and energy supply in particular.
"Today, we are still miles away from the infrastructure we need for the world of 2050," said Christoph Mäder, President of Economiesuisse, according to the press release. The production of climate-friendly electricity must be doubled in order to guarantee the energy supply in 2050.
In order to achieve this, faster procedures, a new subsidy system, technology openness and an electricity agreement with the European Union (EU) are needed. Such an agreement is currently being negotiated between the Federal Council and the European Commission.
In the area of mobility, the conference focused on the expansion of road infrastructure on the one hand and the use of new technologies on the other. The economy is clearly behind the Strategic Development Program for National Roads (Step), it continued. Step provides for the expansion of highways in Switzerland. The electorate will vote on this in November.
