The Green Party parliamentary group in the National Council intends to fight tooth and nail against additional billions for the armed forces when discussing the army bill. In their view, the people should be able to decide on the increase.

"Have the courage to present the almost thirty billion francs to the population," appealed parliamentary group spokesperson Marionna Schlatter (ZH) to the conservative majority in the National Council on Wednesday afternoon. The Greens are ready for a broad debate.

The Greens believe that the army's "one-sided" focus on its defense capability is wrong, as Schlatter said. There are far greater problems in the world and the army is setting its priorities wrong.

Although the immediate threat situation for Switzerland has not changed, there is a "hasty desire to rearm" in parliament, Schlatter continued. Doubling army spending by 2030 is "unnecessary" and "the result of alarmist army propaganda".
