Violent Lausanne football fan convicted

A Lausanne football fan who threw a firecracker into the stands of the Tuilière stadium during the match between FC Lausanne-Sport and FC Basel, injuring three people, has been identified and arrested. He has been banned from the stadium for five years and from the area for three years, as the Vaudois police announced on Thursday.
The match in question was the first matchday of the Super League championship for the 2024-2025 season on July 21. At the end of the match, the fan threw a firecracker into the still full stands, injuring three spectators.
Investigations by hooliganism specialists from the Vaud cantonal police led to the identification of a 29-year-old Swiss national who was already known to the police for similar incidents and has now been banned from the stadium for five years by the Swiss Football Association (SFA) until August 2029.
On the sidelines of the Switzerland-Germany Euro 2024 match in Frankfurt on June 23, the same man had thrown a firecracker into the crowd during the Swiss fans' procession. For this, the German authorities banned him from entering the country until the end of the tournament on July 15, 2024.
The Vaud cantonal police also issued him with a three-year ban from the area, which is valid until August 2027. The public prosecutor's office initiated a criminal investigation following a complaint from two victims.
