Center Party President Gerhard Pfister sees the disagreement within the conservative camp as a reason for the failure of the BVG reform. The conservative "yes" alliance had been broken up by parts of the SVP.
There were also prominent voices within the FDP from the Council of States who opposed the bill, said Pfister, who was also president of the Yes committee, to Swiss radio SRF on Sunday. "Then it will be difficult."
When asked about the next steps, the National Councillor from Zug did not commit himself: "It's not for us to say now what we will do the day after tomorrow or the day after that." The ball is now in the Federal Council's court. However, it was advisable to take a "timeout" now. The referendum must be taken seriously.
