The indie band Maximo Park combines classic rock elements with new influences in their new album. A tour with a concert in Zurich is planned for November.
British indie rock band Maximo Park are releasing their eighth studio album "Stream Of Life" on Friday. Eleven songs deal with profound themes in varied indie rock. The band is perhaps in the most reflective phase it has ever been in, according to a press release.
The album is inspired by the title of a short story by the Ukrainian-Brazilian writer Clarice Lispector (1920-1977). Lead singer Paul Smith was inspired by her stream of consciousness and the way she made people think about the inner mechanisms of human beings. The almost poetic lyrics on the album are also about this.
Passion, politics and privilege
The album's opener "Your Own Worst Enemy", for example, addresses the everyday self-deceptions and mistakes that people make in order to avoid inner conflicts. "Here comes this horrible feeling, you're your own worst enemy. My words just bounce off the ceiling, here we go again, hide the anger, let's pretend," sings Smith.
But the band, which has been active for over 20 years, also tackles topics such as passion, politics and privilege. The British trio remains true to its style, but also continues to develop musically. With tracks such as "The End Can Be As Good As The Start" and "Doppelgänger Eyes", Maximo Park combine fast rhythms with catchy melodies, while pieces such as "Armchair View" also give space to quiet passages.
The band plans to go on tour with their new album this fall. In addition to appearances in England and Germany, a concert in Zurich on November 12 is also planned.
