Farmers should receive at least the same level of federal support from 2026 to 2029 as in the current period. This is the demand of a National Council committee. It is opposing the Federal Council's plans to cut the payment framework by 1.6%.

Specifically, the Economic Committee of the National Council (WAK-N) has requested that the payment framework requested by the Federal Council for the promotion of production and sales and for the payment of direct payments be increased by a total of CHF 361 million, as announced by the parliamentary services on Tuesday. From 2026, this should provide agriculture with the same nominal amount of funding as in the current financing period.

The Federal Council wants to set the payment framework at around CHF 13.8 billion. According to the national government, agriculture must also make a contribution to reducing the burden on the regular budget.

The majority of the WAK-N takes a different view. It argues that federal spending on agriculture has remained constant for twenty years.
