A man is said to have illegally brought around 45 kilograms of the trendy Dubai chocolate to Germany.
German customs officers stopped the 31-year-old driver's van on the highway in Weil am Rhein two weeks ago on Monday, according to a customs spokeswoman. The town in the southern German state of Baden-Württemberg is located near the Swiss border and in the middle of the border triangle of Germany, France and Switzerland.
The vehicle's destination was the western German city of Dortmund. The officers counted 243 boxes of Dubai chocolate on the loading area. These are filled with pistachio cream and fried dough threads and are currently popular on social networks such as Instagram and Tiktok.
He did not have any proof of customs clearance. He is therefore now being investigated on suspicion of tax evasion. According to the information provided, he also had to pay import duties of just under 920 euros. He was then able to continue his journey.
